How it works

Import

An automated job streams Open Food Facts' official bulk export, normalizes each product, and rejects anything without a valid barcode, a meaningful name, or enough nutrition data to be useful. Roughly the 10,000 best-quality, most-relevant products — prioritising Australia, then New Zealand, the UK, the US and Canada — are kept and saved to our database. This runs on a schedule and can also be triggered manually; it never requires anyone to download or upload a file by hand.

Quality scoring

Each product gets a quality score based on how complete its data is (nutrition, ingredients, an image, a Nutri-Score) and how relevant it is (country, Open Food Facts scan popularity). Only products that clear a quality bar are shown in search results by default and included in our sitemap for search engines — thin or incomplete entries stay out of the public index.

Serving calculator

Open Food Facts reports nutrition per 100g/100ml. The calculator on each product page multiplies those figures by the quantity you enter — it's simple arithmetic, not an estimate or an AI-generated answer.

Refresh schedule

A weekly job re-checks existing products and considers newly-qualifying ones. Imports are additive and safe to rerun: a failed or partial import never removes existing product data.
